Some stray thoughts on the Tonys:
- Pink’s opening number was incredible! This was the Tony opening number us theatre kids have been dreaming about for years. Pink committed to the bit and more than delivered.
- Squibby squibby squibby JUNE! Sorry where was I?
- Alden Ehrenreich proves he is a movie star by giving a movie star supporting performance in Becky Shaw.
- I didn’t get to see much on Broadway this season but I did see Cats: The Jellicle Ball off Broadway a few years ago – it was so inspired. Ragtime is one of my favourite musicals but this production was being buoyed by its great performances. I don’t understand why they chose to perform the opening when the original did such a perfect job nearly 30 years ago (seeing baby Lea Michele is one of my most watched Youtube video’s). Meanwhile the Cats performance was pure queer joy!
- Lesley Manville is one of the best film actresses – thrilled to see she won for stage. Can someone please remount Oedipus so I can see it.
- I was a big fan of Schmigadoon the TV show, can’t wait to see the musical. Their performance was a lot of fun!
